External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said that India and the US need to unite together to fight extremism, extremism, and fundamentalism. On the issue of buying arms from Russia, Jaishankar said that India decides where to buy arms because of its national interest. He was addressing a joint press conference with his American counterpart Antony Blinken here.
India procures weapons according to the needs
Jaishankar said that where we get our military equipment is not a new issue or has not changed due to geo-political reasons. He also said that India has not faced any problems in the past regarding the supply of spare parts from Russia. He said that we buy weapons from different sources according to our needs. Jaishankar said that both India and the US have shown interest in promoting a more resilient and reliable supply chain. The worldwide supply chain has been severely affected due to the Corona pandemic. The foreign minister said that in his meeting with Blinken, he also raised the issue of challenges faced by Indians regarding US visas. Blinken said that this is mostly due to the Corona epidemic and that America is trying to overcome these problems.
Blinken's clarification on military aid to Pakistan
A day earlier, Jaishankar had raised the issue of US $ 450 million aid to Pakistan for the maintenance and repair of fighter aircraft F-16. Defending America's move at a joint press conference, Blinken said that we must provide Pakistan with military equipment to strengthen its capability to deal with terrorist threats. He said that there is nothing new in this. We are also responsible for the maintenance of any military equipment we provide.
PM's statement on the Russia-Ukraine war appreciated
Blinken also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement to Russian President Vladimir Putin that this is not an era of war. Blinken said the US could not expect much more. PM Modi talked about the whole world. Let us tell you that on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting, PM Modi made the above comment while requesting Putin to end the war.
