Delhi's Jama Masjid has withdrawn the ban on the single entry of women. According to sources, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had appealed to the Shahi Imam of the mosque, Bukhari, to lift the ban, which the Shahi Imam has accepted. However, he has said that my appeal is that people visiting the mosque should maintain the dignity of the place.
In fact, on Thursday, Jama Masjid banned the entry of women alone. A copy of the notice was pasted on the walls of the mosque, according to which it was forbidden for a girl or girls to enter the mosque alone. That is, the group of girls was also not allowed inside the mosque. ,
Regarding this, the mosque administration had given the reason that single girls call the boys to meet them in the mosque after giving them time. They make dance videos here, we are banning them. However, Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, issued a notice to the mosque on this issue.
Mosque spokesman said – people have started thinking of religious places as parks
After the controversy over the order escalated, Jama Masjid spokesperson Sabiullah Khan clarified that the ban would not apply to women who come with family or husbands. This step has been taken to prevent wrong activities on the mosque premises.
He had said that women have not been banned. There is no ban on families or married couples, but girls come here alone, giving time to meet boys. Misbehavior happens here, girls dance in the mosque, and make Tiktok videos. This ban has been imposed to stop these activities. If someone wants to come here and worship, he can come, but it is not right to consider any religious place as a park.
The chairperson of the Delhi Women's Commission termed the decision as wrong.
Swati Maliwal said that the decision to stop the entry of women into the Jama Masjid is wrong. There should be no difference in the right of worship between women and men. She also said that she is issuing notice to Jama Masjid in this matter.
