The fire in a six-story building in Kuwait spread so fast that people did not even get a chance to save their lives. Kuwait Times quoted firefighters as saying that the fire broke out suddenly due to a cylinder explosion in the kitchen on the ground floor of the building at around 6 am on Wednesday. Lieutenant Colonel Ali of Kuwait Fire Department told an Indian media group, there were more than 160 workers in the building and most of them were Indians. Some Pakistani and Bangladeshi workers have also been confirmed to be there. All of them worked for the same company. Ali said the fire spread very fast. The workers did not get a chance to get out. Many people were evacuated through emergency services. More than 30 people are injured in the accident.

Kuwait Home Minister Sheikh Fahad said, what happened is the result of the greed of the company and the building owners. He asked the Kuwait Municipality and local public authority to take immediate action in the matter of cramming workers like animals in the buildings. He was also instructed to implement all safety requirements to prevent such incidents.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Rahul Gandhi expressed condolences

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar wrote on social media, "My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. I wish for the speedy recovery of all those injured." At the same time, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said I am shocked by this horrific news. At the same time, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar demanding the intervention of the Center in the Kuwait incident.

21 percent of Indians in Kuwait

Kuwait is among those Gulf countries where the number of Indians is about 21 percent of the population.

About 1 million Indians work in Kuwait in positions from bottom to top.

Kuwait, a country of 42 lakh people, is slightly smaller than the US state of New Jersey, but it has the sixth largest known oil reserves in the world. Indians account for 30 percent of the labor force.
