There are about 30 crore LPG consumers in the country, while the number of gas cylinders is about 70 crore. Most of these customers are with Indian Oil Corporation. As the prices of gas are increasing in the country, cases of illegal extraction of gas from cylinders are also increasing. To curb this, the government has decided to QR code the cylinders. Having a QR-coded cylinder will help consumers in case of theft of gas. Actually, with the help of a QR code, their cylinders can be tracked, due to which gas thieves can be identified during the process of cylinder distribution.
QR code printed on LPG cylinders will work like an Aadhaar card
Sharing this information, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the government is going to equip all LPG gas cylinders with QR codes. By doing this, the tracking of gas cylinders will be easy and those who steal gas will be caught. In other words, this QR code will work in the same way as an Aadhaar card works for a human being. With this decision of the government, in the coming time, every cylinder equipped with a QR code will have its own unique identity.
QR codes will be installed on all cylinders in the coming three months
During World LPG Week 2022, Union Minister Hardeep Puri told about this project that in the coming three months, a QR code will be installed on all LPG gas cylinders. This means that from February 2023, a cylinder equipped with a QR code will reach your home. After that, if there is a complaint of gas theft in the cylinder, then having the QR code will be able to identify the person extracting gas from the cylinder illegally.
