Lionel Messi scored his 100th goal for Inter Miami as the MLS side defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 in the Campeones Cup final on Wednesday. Messi opened the scoring with a first-half header before Casemiro sealed the victory with another header in the 81st minute.
The win gave Inter Miami their first-ever Campeones Cup title and added another trophy to the club's growing collection since Messi's arrival.

Messi put Inter Miami ahead in the 24th minute after meeting a cross from Luis Suárez with a header.
The goal marked Messi's 100th goal for Inter Miami in 115 appearances across all competitions, adding another major milestone to his record with the club.
There was also a notable connection with Cruz Azul. Messi had scored his first goal for Inter Miami against the Mexican side in July 2023. On that occasion, he scored a stoppage-time free-kick to complete a 2-1 victory in his Miami debut.
Casemiro doubles Inter Miami's lead
Inter Miami extended their advantage in the 81st minute when Casemiro headed home from a corner delivered by Messi.
The goal continued Casemiro's impressive recent scoring run. He has now scored four goals in his last five matches, with all four coming from headers.
The second goal gave Miami enough cushion to see out the match and secure the Campeones Cup trophy.

Cruz Azul, meanwhile, remain without a Campeones Cup title. The Mexican club also lost the 2021 final.

For Messi, the victory combined an individual milestone with another trophy for Inter Miami.
His 100th goal for the club came against the same opponent he faced when he opened his Miami scoring account, while his assist on Casemiro's goal helped complete a 2-0 victory.
