Gold and silver prices witnessed a sharp decline in the domestic bullion market on Friday, October 30, as heavy selling in international markets dragged down precious metal rates. Silver prices in Delhi plunged by ₹8,300 per kilogram to ₹1,90,200, marking their lowest level in nearly 11 months. Gold prices also weakened, with 99.9% purity gold falling by ₹1,300 to ₹1,45,200 per 10 grams.
The latest decline has raised concerns among investors and jewellery buyers about whether gold and silver prices could fall further in the coming sessions. Persistent inflation, expectations of higher interest rates and concerns about weakening physical demand are among the factors putting pressure on the precious metals market.
Silver Price Today: Rates Fall to an 11-Month Low
According to the All India Bullion Association, silver prices dropped sharply by ₹8,300 per kilogram on Friday. The metal was trading at ₹1,90,200 per kilogram, compared with its previous closing price of ₹1,98,500.
The decline took silver to its weakest level in almost 11 months. The last time prices were around this level was in December 2025.
The sharp fall followed a marginal increase in silver prices during the previous trading session. The latest movement reflects the selling pressure in international bullion markets, where silver has also suffered significant losses.
Gold Rate Today: Gold Becomes Cheaper by ₹1,300
Gold prices also moved lower in the national capital. The price of 99.9% purity gold declined by ₹1,300 to ₹1,45,200 per 10 grams on Friday.
In the previous session, the precious metal had closed at ₹1,46,500 per 10 grams.
The fall in gold prices came alongside a broader decline in global precious metals. International spot gold dropped below the $4,000-per-ounce level, while silver prices also slipped below $50 per ounce during Friday's sell-off.
Why Are Gold and Silver Prices Falling?
Several global factors have contributed to the recent weakness in gold and silver prices.
One major concern is the outlook for interest rates. Persistent inflation and elevated energy prices have strengthened expectations that central banks may maintain a restrictive monetary policy for longer.
Even when policymakers leave interest rates unchanged, signals that borrowing costs may remain elevated can weigh on precious metals. Gold and silver do not generate interest income, making them relatively less attractive when bond yields and interest rates are high.
Rising oil prices have also increased concerns about inflation. A stronger US dollar and higher bond yields can add further pressure by making dollar-denominated commodities more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
Global stock-market volatility and forced selling by investors have also contributed to the recent decline in bullion prices.
Silver Market Faces Another Challenge: Possible Surplus in 2027
Apart from monetary policy, silver is facing concerns related to its supply-demand outlook.
According to market analysis reported by Metals Focus, the silver market could move from a supply deficit towards a surplus in 2027. Rising inventories, weaker jewellery demand and slower industrial consumption may reduce the tightness that previously supported prices.
Industrial demand is particularly important for silver because the metal is widely used in electronics, solar panels and other manufacturing applications. If manufacturers reduce silver consumption or switch to alternative materials, demand growth could weaken.
These developments may limit the scope for a sustained recovery, even if investor interest in precious metals improves.
Will Silver and Gold Prices Fall Further?
The near-term outlook for gold and silver remains uncertain, with the possibility of continued volatility.
Prices could remain under pressure if inflation stays elevated, bond yields rise and central banks continue to signal restrictive monetary policies. Weak jewellery demand and concerns about a potential silver surplus in 2027 could also weigh on silver.
However, a recovery cannot be ruled out. Any easing in interest-rate expectations, a weaker US dollar or renewed safe-haven demand could support precious metals. Silver may also experience sharper price movements than gold because of its additional exposure to industrial demand and investor sentiment.
Therefore, the recent correction does not guarantee that prices will continue falling. Investors and jewellery buyers should monitor global interest-rate signals, currency movements and physical demand before making decisions.
What Should Investors and Jewellery Buyers Watch?
Market participants should keep an eye on the following factors:
US interest-rate outlook: Any change in expectations about future rate hikes could influence bullion prices.
Inflation and crude oil: Persistent inflation and higher energy prices may keep pressure on precious metals.
US dollar and bond yields: A stronger dollar and higher yields can make gold and silver less attractive.
Silver industrial demand: Solar-panel manufacturing, electronics and other industrial sectors will influence silver consumption.
Global inventories: Rising stocks and a possible supply surplus in 2027 could affect silver's price outlook.
