On this occasion, 65-year-old superstar Mohanlal was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to South Indian cinema. He was presented with this special award by President Draupadi Murmu. "As a representative of the Malayalam film industry, I am the second and youngest person from the state to be honored with a national honor. This moment doesn't belong to me alone. When I received this news, I was overjoyed, not just because I was being honored, but because I was chosen to carry forward our cinematic voice. It's my good fortune that fate has given me this opportunity to accept this award on behalf of all those who have shaped the Malayalam industry with their vision and artistry. Honestly, I never even dreamed of this moment."
Mohanlal was chosen by the selection committee for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 this year for his continued presence in South Indian films for over four decades.

In addition to Mohanlal, Shah Rukh Khan received the Best Actor award for Jawaan, and Vikrant Massey received the Best Actor award for 12th Fail. Rani Mukerji was also awarded the Best Actress award for the film 'Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. Shilpa Rao was awarded the Best Female Playback Singer award for the song 'Chaleya' from 'Jawaan'.
In addition, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh's starrer 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' also received several awards in various categories, which producer Karan Johar attended to receive.
