The second wave of Corona has seen a tremendous increase in the demand for oxygen in the country. Many patients lost their lives due to a lack of oxygen. Meanwhile, the Government has amended the Foreign Trade Policy and has also allowed importing oxygen concentrator machines for personal use.
This has been given through an official press release from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The oxygen concentrator machine is listed as having exempt categories. In it, customs have been recorded as a 'gift'.
According to central government regulations, anyone can purchase these oxygen concentrators through the post, courier, or e-commerce portals at their own cost. According to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), this exemption will continue till 31 July 2021.
The notification states, "Import of goods to be procured through e-commerce portals, through postal or courier, where customs clearance is sought as a gift, life-saving drugs/medicines/oxygen concentrator and rakhi (But not a gift related to Rakhi) is prohibited. ''
