PM Modi inaugurated the 108th Indian Science Congress: Said- Big change is possible with technology; Women's participation in science doubled

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 108th Indian Science Congress on Tuesday. The focus of the event was on women's empowerment as well as science and technology. PM Modi said that the role of India's scientific power will be very important in the height which India will reach in the next 25 years.

 

PM Modi further said – Big change is possible with technology. Till 2015, we were at 81st position in the Global Innovation Index of 130 countries, but in 2022 we have reached 40th position. India is on top-3 in startups. Women are also coming forward and taking part in it. Like every field, the participation of women in science has also doubled.

The subject of the program was Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women's Empowerment. It was organized at Tukoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Tukoji Maharaj Nagpur University is celebrating its centenary this year. During this, Maharashtra's Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, and several Union ministers were also present.

 

event after two years

This event was organized after two years. Earlier in 2020, this event was held in Bengaluru. Due to Kovid-19, it was postponed for two years. This is the first time that PM Modi did not personally participate in the gathering of top scientists from different fields. Let us inform you that the first session of the Indian Science Congress was held in 1914. Since then it is organized every year.

 

Discussion on increasing the participation of women

Members participating in this event held on Tuesday discussed increasing the participation of women in education, research and industry. Members attending the Science Congress discussed ways to increase women's participation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, as well as ways to increase their equal status in education, research opportunities, and economic partnerships.
