Vivek Agnihotri starrer 'Bengal Files' is currently surrounded by controversies. There was a lot of uproar at the trailer launch event of the film held in Kolkata recently. Along with stars like Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Pallavi Joshi, Shashwat Chatterjee is also in an important role in this film. However, he has distanced himself from the controversy going on regarding the film.
Said- 'I am an actor, not a historian'
Actor Shashwat Chatterjee was recently asked about the controversy going on regarding the film. On this, he distanced himself from the controversy and said that he is not a historian but an actor. He further said that he cannot check the political correctness of the story of a film. The actor says that he has no idea why the title of the film has been changed from 'The Delhi Files' to 'The Bengal Files'.
There was a ruckus at the trailer launch event
Actor Shashwat's comment comes at a time when several FIRs are being registered against the makers of 'The Bengal Files' for the description of the 1946 riots. Apart from this, there was a lot of ruckus at the trailer launch event in Kolkata. The event held in Kolkata was reportedly canceled due to 'political pressure'. Apart from this, the portrayal of Bengali freedom fighter Gopal Mukherjee in 'The Bengal Files' is also being severely criticized. Gopal Mukherjee played an important role in stopping the 1946 riots and atrocities on Hindus. His grandson Shantanu Mukherjee had filed a complaint against director Vivek Agnihotri, accusing him of distorting facts.
Said - 'I liked the character and I played it'
Shashwat Chatterjee said in a recent interview to The Wall that he is not a historian to comment on whether a film is misinterpreting history or not. He said, 'I am just an actor. I liked a character and I played it. I am not a historian to think about history and this is distorting history. This is not my job. If those whose job it is, feel that Bengal is being insulted, then they can go to court with the information. There is no point in just making noise'.
Shashwat playing a negative role
Let us tell you that Shashwat is playing a negative role in the film. When he was asked if he is afraid that 'The Bengal Files' will not be released in West Bengal? On this he said, 'I don't know. Let me tell you that nowadays it is a trend that the whole story is not told to anyone. You just get to know your track, your character. When I was told about this character in 'The Bengal Files', I liked this character very much. It is the character of a villain and very few people get to play such characters.
Why was the title of the film changed?
The actor also told that the name of the film was earlier 'The Delhi Files', but later the name was changed, which he was not aware of. Regarding the title, the actor said, 'When the shooting was going on, the name of the film was 'Delhi Files' and after the shooting was completed, I came to know that it has been changed to 'The Bengal Files'. It is not in my hands. Until I see the film, I will not understand why this happened?'
