Petrol and diesel prices increased for two consecutive days

Petrol and diesel prices were increased for two consecutive days on Tuesday and Wednesday across the country. Petrol and diesel prices increased by 80 paise in Delhi and 85 paise in Mumbai on Wednesday. After this increase, petrol is getting the cheapest i.e. Rs 84.30 per liter and diesel at Rs 78.52 in Andaman and Nicobar's Port Blair. At the same time, the most expensive petrol is being sold at Rs 114.80 and diesel at Rs 97.44 a liter in Parbhani, Maharashtra.

On Tuesday, along with 80 paise per liter in diesel-petrol prices, the price of domestic gas cylinders was also increased by Rs 50. Due to rising crude oil prices in the international market due to the Russia-Ukraine war, oil companies are under pressure to increase the prices of petrol and diesel. In such a situation, in the coming days, petrol and diesel can be expensive by up to Rs 20 per.

Understand the math of government tax on the price of petrol and diesel

In the last 3 years, the government has earned crores from tax on petrol and diesel. When you put petrol worth 100 rupees in your car, then 52 rupees out of this goes into the government's pocket as tax. In Maharashtra, a maximum of Rs 52.50 (out of Rs 100) is collected as tax. On the other hand, if you fill petrol worth Rs 100 in Delhi, then out of this Rs 45.3 goes to the government.

13 times the central government increased excise duty

The Modi government, which came to power by a promising reduction in the price of petrol and diesel, has increased the excise duty 13 times in the last 8 years. When the Modi government came in May 2014, the central government used to charge Rs 10.38 on one liter of petrol and Rs 4.52 on diesel. At the same time, excise duty on one liter of petrol is Rs 27.90 and on diesel Rs 21.80.
