MNS chief Raj Thackeray held a press conference amid loudspeaker controversy and fears of arrest. He said, notices have been issued to MNS workers at many places, they have been detained. I have been receiving calls from many places since morning. The MNS chief said, "Nothing is being said to those who are not following the law." Those who are trying to enforce the law are being detained.
Many mosques understood my point, thank you
Raj Thackeray said, many people have understood my point. In many mosques there is no azaan through loudspeakers. Thanks to the mosques which have understood my point. He said that in Maharashtra, about 90 percent of the mosques have not heard azaan through loudspeakers. However, he again said that those who would not listen to us, Hanuman Chalisa would be recited there. He said, it is not a religious issue, it is a social issue. If they remain adamant, then we will also follow Dharma.
The campaign will continue till the loudspeaker is landed
This is not a one day issue, the MNS chief said. I don't want to take credit for this. Everyone has cooperation in this. Why have illegal mosques been allowed loudspeakers, he said. Why is no action being taken against those who do not follow the law? Our demand is not just for morning azaan. This campaign will continue till the loudspeakers are removed from all the mosques.
Not saying this, don't do azaan
Raj Thackeray said, I am not saying don't do azaan, don't pray in mosque. My only opposition is don't use loudspeakers. My protest is against the use of loudspeakers throughout the year. How are mosques allowed to use it for a year? At the time of Ganesh Puja, we are allowed only ten days.
When will action be taken on 135 mosques
Addressing the media, the MNS chief said, there are 1400 mosques in Mumbai. Of these, 135 mosques violated the order of the Supreme Court and offered azaan through loudspeakers. I want to ask the government what action has been taken against them so far? Thackeray said that we want peace in the state. All I want to say is that the order of the Supreme Court should be followed.
250 MNS workers detained
According to the Maharashtra Police, more than 250 MNS workers and leaders have been detained in the state till noon for playing Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers. Bandra, Bhiwandi and Nagpur are also reported to have played Hanuman Chalisa during Ajan. Heavy police force has been deployed in Pune and Nagpur.
