The Indian women's cricket team began the new year by seeking divine blessings. Members of the World Cup-winning Indian women's cricket team participated in the Bhasma Aarti at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, ended the year on a high note. The Indian women recently completed a clean sweep against Sri Lanka in a five-match T20 series.

The Indian women started the new year by visiting the Mahakaleshwar temple. A video shared on social media shows players, including Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Renuka Singh Thakur, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, and Arundhati Reddy, sitting and praying in the temple premises. The players also received blessings from the priest and prepared themselves for the year ahead.

The Indian team recently defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the fifth and final match played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, completing a 5-0 clean sweep in the T20 International series. This was India's third 5-0 series win in T20 Internationals. They had previously achieved this feat against West Indies (away) in 2019 and Bangladesh (away) in 2024.

The Indian team is currently preparing for the T20 World Cup 2026. Harmanpreet's team further solidified their preparations with the series win against Sri Lanka. The Indian women's team was eliminated in the first stage of the previous tournament in 2024 after losses to New Zealand and Australia.

Since then, the team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has not lost a single series. The Indian women have registered wins against West Indies (2-1), England (3-2), and Sri Lanka (5-0). India will face Australia in February 2026 and England in May 2026 to finalize their preparations before the T20 World Cup.
