After the lockdown, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed preparations to run the metro in changed circumstances. Now only the central and state government orders are awaited. Metro will make several changes to protect passengers from infection. Under this, smart cards will now be used instead of tokens for travel.
According to the Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), it will be mandatory to show the Arogya Setu app at the entry point of the station. Not only this, the passengers will have to wait till all the formalities are completed for safety.
Apart from smart card and Arogya Setu app and thermal screening, more time will have to be given for the journey in view of social distancing. As part of the preparations for the operation of the metro, in addition to all 264 metro stations, 2200 coaches and lift, escalators and all the places coming in contact with passengers are being sanitized. Necessary messages will also be given through stickers and signage to make people aware of social distancing even inside coaches including metro campuses.
DMRC said in a statement that in the wake of the epidemic, the work of keeping the premises free of infection is ongoing. DMRC is preparing a guideline for this in which rules will be made on the entire system from entry to seating inside the metro.
Before the lockdown, about 70 percent of the passengers of the metro were using the metro card during the journey. At the same time, about 30 percent of the passengers used to travel by buying tokens. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), preparations have been almost completed on all aspects necessary to prevent infection, including smart cards.
The fixed safety standards will be fully adhered to. Not only this, travelers from other states who do not travel regularly will also have to take a card.
