Residence Proof for Cab Drivers now Mandatory in Jaipur

Jaipur, Jan 31 (IANS) Traffic police in Jaipur, which attracts a large number of tourists including foreigners, have asked autorickshaw and cab drivers to always carry proof of residence and of their company or taxi union while driving.

The order came after a woman executive was allegedly raped by a taxi driver in Delhi over a month back.

"Autorickshaw and cab drivers will have to carry identity proof as to which taxi union or company they belong to, along with a valid driving license," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Haider Ali Zaidi told IANS Saturday.

Since a driving license can be issued anywhere in India, the driver will have to carry proof that he is a resident of the Rajasthan capital.

"It will also be mandatory to write the name of the company to which the vehicle belongs, name of the driver and contact numbers of both the driver and owner of the vehicle inside and outside the vehicle," he said.

Two drivers or one driver and his associate or friend will not be allowed in any cab or autorickshaw at night.

All these formalities are to be completed before Feb 15, after which police will take action against cab owners and drivers, the official said.
