Perth, Feb 27 (IANS) Scotland Friday were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their cricket World Cup Pool A match against Afghanistan at Dunedin Thursday.
Match referee David Boon imposed a fine of 20 percent on captain Preston Mommsen while his side was fined 10 percent of their match fees after they were ruled to be one over short of the target despite time allowances were taken into consideration.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time with the captain fined double the amount.
Mommsen could be suspended for a match if another over-rate offence is committed by Scotland. He pleaded guilty and accepted the sanction because of which there was no need for a formal hearing.
