I am at present in Karnprayag of Chamoli district. Like Tawang, Galvan, Doklam of the China border, it is a sensitive place, but less known or in fewer headlines. The Barahoti border is only a few kilometers away from here. The train is going to reach Karnprayag in 2024. This place and year may be normal for us, but ask China, in whose sleep Karnaprayag comes like a nightmare. The reason, when the train passes through the stomach of the Himalayas will come from Rishikesh to Karnaprayag, then India will reach the throat of China.

The second phase is also from Karnprayag to Joshimath. Its DPR has been prepared. Then our train will reach the head of China. The complete picture of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project tells how China is facing military as well as technical challenges on the Uttarakhand border. This is the biggest and costliest project being built on the Chinese border in 75 years. The cost is about 24 thousand crore rupees. Most important is its route, which 90% passes through the belly (underground) of the Himalayas. In the 125 km long track, 105 km of the train will pass through the tunnel. The open part belongs to the station. There are a total of 16 tunnels and 12 stations here. Understand the importance of the project that from Rishikesh to the China border (Barahoti) where earlier it used to take 16-18 hours, now it will take only 5-6 hours.

The country's longest rail tunnel is also a part of this project.

The country's longest (14.8 km) rail tunnel from Devprayag to Janasu is also a part of this project. PMO is doing a weekly review of the project. Uttarakhand's 345 km long China border is very important. Colonel HS Rawat, who has been posted on the borders for a long time, says that these days China is panting due to the pain of this project in Uttarakhand. It has changed its strategy, because the Barahoti border is not that important for China from a strategic point of view, so its reaction comes to the fore in Sikkim and Arunachal.

Rawat says that China believes that India is challenging it technically with this project. Tarun Vijay, former chairman of the India-China parliamentary group, says that China has intruded 63 times in Barahoti so far. Tawang-Galwan-like infiltration continues here as well. China shows its anger for this project of ours here as well as in Uttarakhand.

This rail project has also changed the meaning of day and night in Uttarakhand. About ten thousand people are working in the tunnels round the clock. For those who are making tunnels by entering the belly of the Himalayas, their path is as challenging as the jawans posted on the border.

105 km journey in a 125 km rail route through 16 tunnels

Devprayag-Janasu will be the country's longest rail tunnel at 14.8 km. There is a rescue tunnel along with every tunnel on the 125 km long rail route. With this, it has become about 200 km. For the first time in the Himalayas, German tunnel boring machines are being used in the Devprayag-Janasu tunnel. Excavation is not done through the blast. However, blast-drill technology is being used in the remaining projects.
