Public Life Disrupted by Heatwave and Severe Heat

On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Bathinda, Punjab, stood at 44°C. Public life in the region has been severely disrupted due to the heatwave and intense heat. The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for heatwave conditions for the upcoming two days. Meanwhile, in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, the maximum temperature in Una reached 40°C—marking the highest temperature recorded in the region so far this season.

Heatwave Persists in Haryana

In Haryana, the intense heat continues due to dry desert winds; consequently, temperatures reached 43.4°C in Faridabad, while Rohtak and Sirsa recorded temperatures of up to 43.3°C. A significant rise has been observed in night-time temperatures as well, alongside the daytime highs. However, a change in weather conditions is anticipated between April 25 and April 30, as three ‘Western Disturbances’ are expected to become active during this period.

Temperatures Cross 40°C Mark in Narmadapuram, Khajuraho, and Nowgong

On Thursday, several cities across Madhya Pradesh experienced heatwave-like conditions. The maximum temperatures in Narmadapuram, Khajuraho, and Nowgong all exceeded the 43°C mark.

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), an ‘induced cyclonic circulation’ is currently active over the state, which is preventing the formation of clouds. Continuous hot winds blowing in from Rajasthan are entering the state, leading to a rise in temperatures. Daily life has been disrupted by the heat, and roads appear deserted during the afternoon hours.

Hot and Dry Weather in Bihar

Dehri in Bihar recorded the highest temperature, reaching 43.0 degrees Celsius. Additionally, temperatures remained above 40 degrees Celsius in Kaimur, Gayaji, Sheikhpura, Jiradei (in Siwan), and Chapra.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather across the state is expected to remain hot and dry over the next two days. A rise of two to three degrees in maximum temperatures is anticipated.

Heat in Uttarakhand’s Plains; Relief in the Hills

In Uttarakhand as well, temperatures are steadily rising amidst bright sunshine. The temperature in Pantnagar has reached 39.2 degrees Celsius. Even in the hilly districts, temperatures remain two to three degrees Celsius above normal levels.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is no likelihood of the heat subsiding in the state’s plains over the next three to four days. However, the weather in the hilly districts may take a turn starting Friday. Light rainfall is possible in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh.

The Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid venturing out into direct sunlight during the afternoon hours and to ensure they stay adequately hydrated. In the coming days, temperatures are also expected to rise further in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.
