Lucknow, Feb 18 (IANS) The opposition is likely to corner the Uttar Pradesh government over non-payment of arrears to cane growers, law and order situation and soaring crime rate when the assembly's budget session begins Wednesday.
The session will begin with Governor Ram Naik's address after which other business and listed business items will be taken up.
Heightened tension is expected after state's powerful cabinet minister Mohd Azam Khan levelled a series of attacks on the governor. All eyes are now on the oppostion parties which are likely to join forces to take on the Samajwadi Party government.
The opposition Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will raise the issues of non-payment of arrears to cane growers, and the failing law and order situation in the state, besides others. The BJP is also expected to raise the issue in a vocal way.
The House will take up the governor's address for discussion Thursday while it will not be in session for two days - Feb 21 and 22.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget for the financial year 2015-16. The budget session will end March 27.
