Vikram Kirloskar, the vice-chairperson of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, passed away on November 29 following a heart attack. He was 64 years old. A fourth-generation member of the Kirloskar business family, Vikram Kirloskar is largely credited with bringing Toyota's business to India. The company gave this information on Twitter.
Early life and education
Vikram Kirloskar was born in November 1958. His father's name is Shrikant Kirloskar. Vikram studied at the Lawrence School in Ooty. After school, he went to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. In an interview in 2017, he said that his engineering background helped him join the family business.
career
After graduating from MIT, Vikram Kirloskar joined the family business. Initially, he joined Kirloskar Cummins in Pune as a trainee in manufacturing. Kirloskar is credited with bringing Toyota's business to India in the late 1990s. Today, Toyota's business in India consists of several companies in which Kirloskar Systems is a partner.
Kirloskar Systems Limited, a holding and investment company owned by Vikram, in association with Toyota, is present in textile machinery, car manufacturing, auto components, aluminum die-casting, and other sectors. In an interview he had said, first we started textiles with Toyota, and then I thought we should enter the car business as well.
