Weekend curfew in Delhi: Rajdhani will remain closed on Saturday-Sunday due to Omicron, government's decision on positivity rate being 6.46%

Weekend curfew has been imposed in Delhi because of the rising corona case and the threat of Omicron. Delhi will remain completely closed on Saturday and Sunday. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that this decision has been taken in the meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

He said that except for essential services, employees in all government offices would be asked to work from home. At the same time, private offices will work with 50% capacity.

The decision was taken on increasing positivity rate

According to Delhi's Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), a positivity rate of more than 5% falls in the category of red alert. The positivity rate in Delhi is currently 6.46%, which is the highest since May.

Sisodia said that Omicron cases are increasing day by day in Delhi. Around 11,000 corona cases were found within the last 8 to 10 days. Of these, about 350 patients are hospitalized. At the same time, only 124 patients needed oxygen. 7 patients are still on a ventilator.

Restrictions can be increased

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said that Omicron is the reason for the increasing cases of corona in the capital. On Monday, 4099 corona cases were found in Delhi and 1 patient died. Further restrictions may be imposed as the number of hospitalized patients increases. There is a possibility of getting about 5500 new cases on Tuesday and the positivity rate reaches 8.5%.

Public transport will run at full capacity

Sisodia said that buses and metro will again run at full capacity in Delhi, but people without masks will not be allowed in buses and metro. Last month itself, a decision was taken to run metro and buses with 50% capacity.

After this, long queues of people were seen outside the station and bus stop and the public had to face a lot of trouble. There were also reports of vandalism in buses from many areas. There was also panic about sitting on the seat.
