West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will contest again in the next six months. This time she will challenge the opposition parties from the Bhawanipur seat. Bengal Agriculture Minister Shobhan Dev Chattopadhyay Friday resigned as MLA from Kolkata's Bhawanipur assembly seat for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Now Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will contest from this seat.
Mamta was elected MLA from this seat in 2011 and 2016. But this time, Mamata herself contested from Nandigram by taking out Shobhanadeva from Bhawanipur and lost to Suvendu Adhikari, who was once close to her. After this, now Mamta will once again contest from Bhawanipur.
Here, the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha Viman Banerjee has also accepted the resignation of Shobhan Dev Chattopadhyay. Says Biman Banerjee, "I have asked him whether he has resigned voluntarily and without any pressure. I am satisfied and I have accepted his resignation."
At the same time, Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, while talking to journalists after giving the resignation, said that the Chief Minister had won twice from Bhawanipur in the past. All the party leaders discussed and when I heard that she wanted to contest from here, I thought that I should give up my seat, there is no pressure. Nobody else dares to run a government. I talked to him. This was their seat, I was just protecting it.
