Virender Sehwag, the former explosive opener of the Indian team, has made a big disclosure regarding the Virat Kohli-Anil Kumble controversy. Sehwag said that Kohli had approached him to take up the position following a spat with former India head coach Anil Kumble.
Sehwag also disclosed the meeting held with BCCI officials for the post of head coach. Let us tell you that Anil Kumble was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team in June 2016, but his contract ended after the 2017 Champions Trophy. Kumble resigned from his post after India's defeat to Pakistan in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy.
What did Sehwag reveal
Virender Sehwag said that the then BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary told him that things were not going well between Kohli and Kumble and the board wanted him to shoulder the responsibility. Sehwag told News18 India, "I would not have applied for the post of the head coach if Virat Kohli and the then BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary had not approached me."
He further said, 'We had a meeting. Amitabh Chowdhary told me that things are not going well between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble. We want you to take up the responsibility of coaching. Chowdhary said that Kumble's contract is ending after the Champions Trophy and then they can go to the West Indies with the team. Remind that Ravi Shastri was made head coach in place of Anil Kumble.
Does Sehwag regret this
