
Work From Home: On Tuesday (July 19), some guidelines related to working from home have been issued by the Ministry of Commerce. It has been said by the Ministry of Commerce that those working in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) will be allowed work from home for a maximum period of one year and it can be implemented for up to 50 percent of the total employees.
The Department of Commerce has announced new rule 43A for work from home under the Special Economic Zone Rules, 2006. It has also been said by the ministry that this notification has been issued based on the demand made by the industrial sector.
The ministry has said that the industries of the country had demanded the issuance of a uniform policy of work from home for the Special Economic Zone. Under the new rule issued by the ministry, certain categories of employees working in SEZ units may be allowed to work from home.
This personnel will also include personnel working in information technology and allied areas working in SEZ units. Such employees can also be kept in this purview who will be temporarily unable to come to work.
According to the new guidelines issued by the ministry, the facility of work from home can be given to 50 percent of the total employees. These employees will also include workers working on a contract basis.
It has been told by the ministry that the Development Commissioner of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will have the right to allow more than 50 percent of the employees to work from home on basis of a valid reason.
It has been said by the Ministry of Commerce that the employees will be able to work from home for a maximum period of one year, but the Development Commissioner can also extend it for one year at a time on request from the units.
