Aizawl, March 9 (IANS) DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday launched the central government's nationwide "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (Save Girl-child, Educate Girl-child) campaign here.
The minister for development of the north eastern region (DoNER) said welfare of the northeastern citizens was high priority for the central government.
The campaign was launched in the Saiha district of the state, which was selected among 50 other districts of the states in the region.
"There could have been no better Women's Day gift than this for the underdeveloped region of northeast. This indicates the high priority and concern that the Narendra Modi government has for peripheral states of northeast and Jammu and Kashmir," Jitendra Singh said.
Jitendra Singh also flagged off medical teams to cover rural areas of the region under the scheme.
