Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday began his spiritual India Jodo Yatra by paying homage to renowned philosopher and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru at the Sivagiri Math in Kerala.
At the Sivagiri Mutt, Rahul Gandhi met the swamis there and offered prayers to the saint reformer before beginning the fourth day of the Kerala leg of the Congress party's 3,570-km and 150-day-long march. This journey started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and will end in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sharing pictures from his visit on Facebook, he said, visited the Sivagiri Math to offer his respects at the samadhi of the great spiritual leader, philosopher, and social reformer, Sree Narayana Guru. Shree Narayan Guru worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the people and had a great influence on the leaders of our freedom movement including Mahatma Gandhi.
AICC general secretary in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh also tweeted about this.
He tweeted, that before the start of the padyatra, @RahulGandhi visited the holiest Sivagiri Math to pay homage to the samadhi of Sree Narayana Guru, who empowered millions and had a great impact on Gandhi & Ambedkar. He was a social revolutionary who is always an inspiration. #India couple travel.
The journey, which started from the Navaikulam Junction here after 7.30 am, was encouraging and will enter the state's Kollam district during the day after spending the last three days in Thiruvananthapuram district.
The first leg of the day's journey is scheduled to halt at Chathannoor in Kollam and is expected to resume from there at 4.30 pm.
The march will halt for the day at Kollam's Pallimukku Junction in the evening, after which Gandhi is scheduled to hold a public meeting near Madananda.
On Tuesday, after the day's visit ended at Kallambalam Junction, Gandhi attacked the BJP, questioning that a party that called itself a representative of Hindus was allegedly creating 'unrest' in the country, Whereas the first word taught in Hinduism is 'Om Shanti'.
"Wherever they are going they are destroying harmony, they are attacking people, they are dividing people, they are abusing them," he said.
The third day of the Kerala Yatra is progressing amid intermittent rains and huge crowds. The Congress leader said that even blisters would not stop his journey as he and hundreds of passengers marched on the streets without umbrellas even when it was raining.
The foot march will cover 12 states and two union territories. The Bharat Jodi Yatra, which entered Kerala on the evening of September 10, will pass through the state covering a distance of 450 kms, touching seven districts over 19 days, before entering Karnataka on October 1.
