Britain's intelligence and security agency MI5 says that Chinese-origin Kristin Lee, who runs a law firm in Britain, gave money to lawmakers for lobbying in the British Parliament. But China says that such allegations are an attempt to defame the Chinese living in Britain.
China is in turmoil due to allegations of interference in British politics. Britain's intelligence and security agency MI5 recently said that a Chinese agent had infiltrated the British Parliament. MI5 said that the Chinese-origin Kristin Ching Kui Lee has helped the Communist Party of China contact the current UK MP and leaders eager to enter parliament.
After this, the Chinese embassy in London responded to these allegations and tried to put MI5 in the dock. He said that MI5 is trying to malign the Chinese community in Britain and interfere in its affairs.
In a statement released on the website of the Chinese embassy, it has been said on behalf of its spokesperson that China has always avoided the policy of interfering in the internal affairs of any other country.
The statement said, "We do not try nor do we need to influence the parliament of any country by paying money. Strongly oppose manipulations."
MI5 says that Chinese-origin Kristin Lee, who runs law firms in London and Birmingham, has given donations to several politicians, including Labor MP Berry Gardiner. At least four lakh twenty thousand pounds have been given to these people.
Foreign funds used for lobbying in the British Parliament?
According to the alert issued by MI5, Kristin Lee claims that her association with the UK Parliament is due to the purpose of representing the Chinese living here and increasing diversity.
But MI5 says she was working quietly with the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China.
For this work being done to influence the British Parliament, he was getting funding from foreign nationals living in China and Hong Kong.
The United Front Work Department is accused of trying to make connections with prominent faces of British politics. Its purpose here is to create an atmosphere in favor of the Communist Party of China so that those who accuse the party of human rights violations and other types of allegations can be challenged.
The British Security Agency says that Lee has had contacts with leaders of all parties present in the British Parliament. Among them is that all-party parliamentary group, which is called 'Chinese in Britain'. This has now been banned.
Labor MP denied allegations of taking money
MI5 warned that Li set hopes of forming a parliamentary group to advance the agenda of the Communist Party of China. Britain's Home Minister Priti Patel said that this is a matter of great concern. It is very disturbing to know that someone from the Communist Party of China was deliberately trying to trap the MPs.
However, he said that the UK has the scale to detect such foreign interference.
Gardiner began receiving money from Lee's law firm Kristin Lee & Company in late 2014. Lee's son was a volunteer for this Labor MP. He was later appointed as Gardiner's dairy manager. Gardiner was a member of the shadow ministry of Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. He says that he has been liaisoning with Lee inside the security services.
Gardiner said that Lee had "no role" in the researchers assigned to him. Every donation that Lee gave has been properly reported.
On allegations of collusion, Gardiner told Sky News: "I believe that the money Lee gave was to improve my work in Parliament. This money has come in handy so that I can do more work in my area." This money has been given directly to the researchers. This money was not for my gain.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has received 5 thousand pounds. He got this money when he was the energy minister. But he said that this money was taken by his local association.
