Kolkata, Jan 5 (IANS) West Bengal's opposition Left Front Monday said if the attack on Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee at a public rally was the result of factional feuds in the ruling party, it could be the precursor to more terrible happenings.
"It is not right to say whether the man was mentally stable or not. If this is due to two rival factions within the Trinamool, then this is the precursor to more terrible happenings," Bose told the media here.
He said such feuds are happening at various places.
"This is happening in some places but TMC has no agenda and no policies of their own. They only have declarations," Bose noted.
The youth who slapped Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at a public meeting in East Midnapore district Sunday, was arrested Monday on various charges including attempt to murder.
Debasish Acharya, a resident of Tamluk in East Midnapore district, is now under treatment in Tamluk Hospital in serious condition after he was brutally assaulted by Trinamool workers for attacking Banerjee during the public meeting at Chandipur Sunday.
"Such an incident shudn't have happened in a public meeting. The man should have been handed over to police," Bose said.
Banerjee Monday forgave the assaulter and appealed to Trinamool Congress workers to maintain peace in the state.
Bharatiya Janata Party state president Rahul Sinha Sunday said his party did not support attack on any leader, but the incident seemed to be the outcome of the Trinamool's factional feud.
