The demand in the travel sector is building up as the demand starts coming out and gradual lifting of restrictions. The region has been badly affected by Covid-19. The first signs of improvement in the travel sector came during the long weekend of Gandhi Jayanti. Travel companies and hotels are expecting more demand in the coming months.

Aditya Agarwal, company strategy head, Cleartrip.com, said, "People were further delayed by the lockdown and restrictions. Now trust in the people is getting restored and restrictions are being relaxed, so we hope that there will be an increase in travel over the next few months and it will come back to the pre-Covid level. '

According to Cleartrip.com, flight bookings have reached nearly 40% of the pre-epidemic levels. These are 20 percent in August and more than 30 percent in September. Aggarwal said, "Hotel bookings in August were only seven percent compared to last year. They rose to 15 percent in September. We estimate that in the next three months they will increase to 25 percent compared to last year. He says that most of the bookings are happening less than 15 days before the date of travel. This is an indication that people are alert about the epidemic. Demand has increased on weekends around the metros. People are emphasizing on cleanliness and safety while making travel plans. Manav Thadani, co-founder of consultancy company Hotlivet, said, "Those laser hotels are so far away from the metros that they can be reached by car, they have an average of 80 percent of their rooms filled every day." This level is much higher than before Covid. He said, "They are missing out on only corporate and business-related to Meetings, Promotions, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICEO)". States are also taking steps to woo tourists. Last month, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board started offering a 25 percent discount on stay in hotels under its tourism incentive coupon scheme. The cases of Covid-19 increased rapidly in Kerala last month, but the state has once again opened its doors to tourists. Except for the beach, all other tourist places have been opened this week. However, security arrangements have been made to control the spread of Covid-19. The number of domestic tourists is also increasing in Goa. But local hotels there are disappointed because the government has not approved foreign charter flights.

There are 20 to 25 flights to Goa airport on weekdays. This number rises to about 30 at the weekend. Goa airport director Gagan Malik said 8 to 10 more flights were expected to start by the end of October. At present, the number of travelers coming to the state is more than the number of travelers.

Rakshit Desai, managing director of the Indian business of Flight Center Travel Group, said, “There is a special class of people who are traveling with great enthusiasm. These include youth, personnel professionals, etc., who are getting the most benefit from working away from the office. But families and most at-risk seniors are preferring to stay home. ' Desai said that factors like security, access, and privacy are increasing demand, and luxury and boutique properties are meeting these criteria. He said, "Maldives and Dubai are showing signs of improvement in international locations". However, there are some problems such as limited flights, park and memorial closures, reduced hotel amenities, and operating at limited capacity. But the demand for hotels is increasing gradually.

Zubin Saxena, managing director of Radisson Hotel Group (South Asia), said, "Demand has increased in the small group segment and has replaced the quarantine stay that hitherto dominated occupancy trends. Our business has also seen an improvement in food and beverage revenue during the past few weeks.

Taj Hotels and Accor Group are also registering an increase in room-filling levels in all types of hotels. They have introduced discounts, value-added room packages, and other consumer offerings. Taj Hotels said that the laser filling levels in Goa, Chennai, and Uttarakhand are good.

Marriott International said it has recorded a trend that many of the people visiting its hotels are booking again. Kerry Hannaford, vice-president (commerce), Accor India & South Asia, said, "Bookings for weekend stays are increasing, indicating increased demand for domestic travel." However, not everyone agrees. Rajat Mahajan, partner at Deloitte India, said, "Some people are calling it a pressing demand, but the industry is far from full recovery." Despite this, the signs are encouraging.
