Big B is...Angry Youngman...Shahenshah...Don...Star of the Millennium. There are many such names of Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan, the megastar of the century, has turned 80 today. The journey of films which started with Saat Hindustani continues till Brahmastra and Goodbye. 4-5 films are in the line for release. In the 8th decade of their life, Amitabh is acting like a young age star.
Amitabh is not an anecdote of Bollywood, he is a complete chapter. There are many stories in this chapter. Some heard a lot and some unheard. Of 110 years of Indian cinema, 50 years belong to Amitabh. It is almost impossible, to sum up, these 50 years together. How unfulfilled love from a girl in Kolkata brought Amitabh to Mumbai. Here All India Radio films were rejected in one audition after another. Got a film Saat Hindustani, but flopped. 12 out of 14 films were flops and my career was almost over. Then got the chain. Zanjeer tied Bollywood and Amitabh together in such a way that even today it is not possible to think of these two separately.
The first incomplete love, which brought Mumbai
The first episode of the story begins with Amitabh's incomplete love. When in 1963, 21-year-old Amitabh came to Kolkata from Allahabad in search of work. In Kolkata, Shaw became a clerk in Wallace's liquor company and shipping firm Bird & Co. Interested in acting, he used to do theater in his spare time. While living in Kolkata, Amitabh also worked in the ICI company, where he met a girl, Chandra, who was a Maharashtrian. Amitabh's salary was 1500 and Chandra's was 400 rupees. Chandra, who worked together, was Amitabh's, first love. He also wanted to get married, but the girl refused. To overcome the grief of heartbreak, Amitabh quit his job first, then the city. 26 days' salary was also deducted, but he just wanted to go away. Later the same girl became the wife of a famous Bengali actor. After leaving Kolkata, Amitabh reached Mumbai, the city of dreams. The quest to find work started again.
Height of 6 feet 3 inches and slim body, dark complexion, and heavy voice. Wherever he went, there was a disappointment. Amitabh also reached the radio station in connection with seeking a job. When I auditioned, Amin Sayani, who was the famous voice of that era, drove away saying that people would be scared to hear my voice.
Amitabh was interested in acting since childhood, but his parents wanted him to do a job. One day while traveling from Mumbai to Delhi by train, Amitabh's brother Ajitabh came to know from the boy sitting next to him that Khwaja Abbas was looking for a new face for his film. He quickly took out the brother's picture and handed it over to the boy. The very next day Khwaja Abbas called Amitabh to meet him. He came to Mumbai from Delhi. Amitabh arrived wearing a white churidar and a white kurta with a Nehru jacket. On asking the name, the answer was received - Amitabh and then the conversation started.
Khwaja- Have you ever worked in films before?
Amitabh- No, people never took me in films.
When Khwaja asked the reason, in response, Amitabh took the names of many big personalities.
Khwaja- What problem did they see in you?
Amitabh- He used to think that I am too tall for heroines.
Khwaja- We don't have any such problem because we don't have a heroine in our film. Even then I would have taken you.
Amitabh- You are taking me in the film? Are you taking me to the movie? without a test?
Khwaja- First you listen to the story and then know the role and fees. If you're ready, you'll sign the contract.
When Khwaja Abbas came to know that Amitabh is the son of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, he asked – Have you come running from home. Amitabh said no in reply. Despite this, Khwaja Abbas wrote a letter to Harivansh Rai Bachchan asking if he did not mind if his son appeared in films. When consent was received in response to the letter, Khwaja signed Amitabh by paying 5 thousand rupees. On 15 February 1969, Amitabh signed the film which was released on 7 November 1969.
The story of a failed newcomer becoming an angry young man…
Dharmendra, who was called a star of that time, bought the script of the film Zanjeer from the writer duo of Salim-Javed. At the same time when Prakash Mehra started the film Samadhi, Dharmendra liked its script so much that he took Samadhi from Prakash Mehra and gave him the script of Zanjeer. Now Prakash Mehra was looking for a hero. Her first choice was Dharmendra who was already busy. Dev Anand rejected the film saying that the songs are fewer. Similarly, Rajkumar agreed on the condition of shooting in the South with other films, but Prakash refused, as the story of the film was from Mumbai. One day Pran told Prakash Mehra that he should sign Amitabh in the film, seeing him, it seems that he will become a star in the future. When Amitabh's last 12 films were flops, Prakash was worried, but he saw the film Bombay to Goa at Pran's behest. On seeing Amitabh in the film, Prakash Mehra cried loudly… Zanjeer Ka Hero Mil Gaya.
