Floods have wreaked havoc in Australia's most populous state, New South Wales. Emergency teams are asking people to evacuate the city. Australia's eastern region is in the grip of a fourth major flood crisis this year due to the multi-year La Nina weather event, which is usually associated with increased rainfall.

Thousands homeless due to floods

Thousands of people were rendered homeless by the floods. Agricultural industries have also suffered. Officials have announced $1.3 billion in disaster relief to help repair homes for thousands. There were 103 flood warnings in the state of New South Wales (NSW) on Saturday.

business suffered a lot

The business has been hit hard by rising water levels in the Lachlan River in Forbes, a rural town in Wheatbelt, about five hours from Sydney. The Lachlan River is forecast to reach a 70-year high of 10.8 meters (32 feet) on Saturday.

rescue workers rescue pregnant women

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) said in a statement that rescue workers used high-clearance vehicles to reach a pregnant woman on Friday. The woman needed immediate medical care. The water level on the banks of the Murmumbigi river near Wagga town on Friday rose to the highest level since 2010.

Stephen Cook warns

NSW Minister Steph Cook warned that towns below the overflowing rivers were now at risk of flooding. He said that even though we are experiencing a respite in the weather, the risk has not subsided yet.

Flood threat in Victoria too

Flooding is also expected in the southern state of Victoria. The water level in the Murray River, which reaches Swan Hill in the northwest of the state, continued to rise over the next few days. All four eastern states of Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania have been affected by floods this year.
