Bank Idle Cash: No claimants of Rs 48262 crore lying in banks, highest deposits in eight states

More than 48 thousand crore rupees are lying idle with different banks in the country. The deposits are the highest in eight states. The number of these unclaimed deposits lying in banks is increasing continuously every year. The RBI has launched a campaign focusing on the eight states that have the maximum amount.

 

RBI is trying since 2018

 

RBI is working on the idle deposits lying in banks since the year 2018. RBI had ordered that all the banks should prepare a list of accounts on which no claimant has come forward for the last ten years and upload it on their website. The information will include the names and addresses of the account holders.

 

 

Raised Rs 9,000 crore in one year

 

According to the annual report of the central bank, the amount lying unclaimed in banks was Rs 39,264 crore in the financial year 2020-21, which has increased to 48,262 crores in 2021-2022. Most of this money is lying in the banks of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bengal, Karnataka, Bihar and Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. That's why RBI has started the campaign in these states in addition to regional languages ​​in Hindi and English language also.
