Fog affects IGI Airport, 85 percent of departing flights are delayed
Air traffic at the country's largest airport was severely affected on Sunday due to fog. 85 percent of departing flights and one-third of arriving flights at IGI Airport were delayed. The average delay for departing flights was about half an hour, while for arriving flights it was five minutes.
The Meteorological Department had predicted moderate to dense fog on Sunday morning, following which aircraft operations at the airport were conducted under Low Visibility Procedures. Minimum visibility was recorded at 350-400 meters, which improved slightly later.
The fog had the greatest impact between 5 am and 10 am, when Low Visibility Procedures were fully in effect. Non-CAT III (aircraft landing and take-off technology) flights had to exercise greater caution, while flights of major airlines like IndiGo and Air India, equipped with CAT III facilities, continued to land and take off without interruption. Airport authorities said that no flights were cancelled or diverted and operations remained normal.
