Nothing has expanded the rollout of its latest software update, Nothing OS 5.0, to its mid-range smartphones. The Android 17-based stable update is now rolling out to the Nothing Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, bringing several new features, design improvements and customisation options.

According to Nothing's official announcement, the update is being distributed in phases, meaning users may receive it at different times depending on their device and region.

Nothing OS 5.0 Features: What's New?

Nothing OS 5.0 introduces several changes compared with Nothing OS 4.1, including improvements to the interface, home screen customisation, camera experience, and Glyph functionality.

1. New Translucent Theme and Home Screen Customisation

One of the biggest highlights of Nothing OS 5.0 is the redesigned home screen experience.

The new Translucent theme introduces transparent widgets, wallpaper-inspired colours and tinted app icons. Users can also customise their lock screens with additional clock styles and colour options.

The update further introduces Collector widgets, allowing users to turn favourite photos into decorative home screen elements. Batch icon editing makes it easier to rearrange multiple apps simultaneously.

2. Split Quick Settings Panel

Nothing OS 5.0 introduces separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels.

The split layout provides a cleaner interface and allows users to access notification information and device controls independently. Bluetooth controls have also been redesigned for easier access to nearby devices.

3. New Glyph Timer and Dedicated Glyph App

The update introduces a dedicated Glyph app, bringing Glyph Interface controls into a central location.

Glyph Timer is another new addition, allowing users to start countdowns directly from their home screens and use the rear lighting interface for visual timer functionality.

The Away Time widget also helps users understand their smartphone usage habits by tracking periods away from the device.

4. Camera Improvements and Dual-view Video

Nothing OS 5.0 also introduces camera-related improvements.

Dual-view Video allows users to record simultaneously using the front and rear cameras. The Phone (3a) series additionally receives enhanced video creation options, including filters, tuning controls and updated editing presets.

5. Essential AI Tools and Android 17 Improvements

The latest software also brings improvements to Nothing's Essential AI features, including Smart Collections, improved Essential Voice transcription and better organisation of captured information.

Nothing OS 5.0 incorporates Android 17 enhancements such as improved privacy indicators, updated permission controls, enhanced screen recording, and additional system customisation options.

How to Download and Install Nothing OS 5.0 Update

Nothing Phone users can check manually for the new software update by following these steps:

Open Settings on your Nothing smartphone.

Navigate to System.

Tap System Update or System Updates.

Check whether Nothing OS 5.0 is available for your device.

Select Download and Install if the update appears.

Allow the installation process to complete and restart the smartphone if prompted.

The update is being rolled out gradually, so it may not appear immediately on every eligible device.

Users should ensure their smartphones have sufficient battery charge and back up important information before installing a major software update.
