CBI files case against MCI officials, others

Chennai, Feb 24 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday said it has registered a corruption case against six people including two officials of Medical Council of India (MCI) connected to grant of permission for a private medical college.

Those against whom the the CBI has registered case under the Prevention of Corruption Act are: MCI additional secretary Pukhraj Prasannaraj, MCI assistant Ashok Kumar, Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust chairman Johnsel Raja, Sardar Rajas Medical College Hospital's ex-principal Janet Khalko, Anish Gopalan of New Delhi and unknown others.

In a statement issued here, the CBI said the accused entered into criminal conspiracy with some unknown people in 2013 and the private medical college under Educational Charitable Trust, Tamil Nadu was granted permission by MCI for MBBS admissions, flouting the laid down norms/regulations.

According to the CBI, searches were conducted at nine different places and cash of around Rs.550,000; around two kg gold; around 25 kg silver along with documents of three properties in the name of family and relatives of Prasannaraj were recovered.
