On the day of Kharna, Rasiya-Kheer is prepared from jaggery and Arwa rice by lighting a fire with mango wood on an earthen stove.

Special care should be taken of cleanliness and purity during Chhath Puja.

After offering offerings to Chhathi Mata, the devotees eat the Prasad and begin their Nirjala fast, which lasts for 36 hours.

Interestingly, there is a special rule for receiving Prasad on the day of Kharna. It is believed that when the fasting person consumes the Prasad, everyone in the house has to remain silent. Also, only after the fasting person accepts the Prasad, the Kharna Prasad is distributed to other members of the household.

After receiving the Prasad on the second day, the fast of the third day begins.
