
Chhath Puja 2023: Chhath Puja fast has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. This special festival is dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. This festival is a four-day festival celebrated six days after Diwali and on the sixth day of Kartik month. Chhath Puja starts with Nahay-Khay and ends with Usha Arghya.

Importance of Kharna Puja
Kharna Puja has special significance in Chhath festival. Kharna means purification. It is believed that while the first day i.e. Nahay-Khay purifies the body, the second day i.e. Kharna emphasizes the cleanliness of the soul and mind.
This year Kharna is being celebrated on 18th November i.e. today.
On this day, devotees observe a strict Nirjala fast for the whole day from sunrise to sunset without drinking water worship Chhathi Maiya in the evening, and break their fast with Kharna Prasad.

On the day of Kharna, Rasiya-Kheer is prepared from jaggery and Arwa rice by lighting a fire with mango wood on an earthen stove.
Special care should be taken of cleanliness and purity during Chhath Puja.
After offering offerings to Chhathi Mata, the devotees eat the Prasad and begin their Nirjala fast, which lasts for 36 hours.
Interestingly, there is a special rule for receiving Prasad on the day of Kharna. It is believed that when the fasting person consumes the Prasad, everyone in the house has to remain silent. Also, only after the fasting person accepts the Prasad, the Kharna Prasad is distributed to other members of the household.
