China is busy spreading its feet rapidly from Japan to Sri Lanka. Seeing his intention, all the countries are very alert about him. The Japanese side said on Monday that Chinese warships had encroached on their waters about 323 times in the last year. Whereas in the year 2020, this number of encroachments was 322. At the same time, China is also rapidly expanding its scope in Sri Lanka. For this, China has chosen those areas of Sri Lanka, which have lost the attention of the people. He now wants to make Sri Lanka a strategically important place under his Belt and Road Initiative. His intention is not only here, but through this, he also wants to use his presence in the Indian Ocean and keep an eye on India.
An article by the Policy Research Group has even said that China is rapidly expanding its footprint in Sri Lanka. It also said that China's ambassador to Sri Lanka, Ki Zhenghong, recently visited the Tamil-dominated area of the northern province. This tour was done before Christmas. However, China has described it as a family tour. It has been said from the Embassy of China that this three-day visit of the Ambassador was a study tour. It was planned for a long time, but due to the Corona epidemic, it got delayed time and again.
However, experts keeping an eye on China are not considering this tour only as a study tour.
They believe that this visit of the Chinese ambassador was part of their strategy. He also believes that China is working on a plan to promote its strategy in Sri Lanka. In this, especially, China has planned to include those areas which have received less attention from the government and which are also out of the limelight. Ki Zhenghong also visited Jaffna's Public Library on his tour and distributed food packets there. He described this as strengthening ties with the local people. This library is considered quite iconic here, which was destroyed in 1981. Later it was rebuilt with the help of India.
Key also visited Kakumbar Farm in East Ariyalai, Jaffna, and Silkroad Food Stuff Factory in Thodavelli. After this, he also went to the temple near Jaffna. This was the first such visit by the Chinese ambassador to the northern region. The people living here are traditionally considered very close to India. This is the reason why Sri Lankans living in the northern part have been against Chinese investment here.
