China's spy ship will reach Sri Lanka on August 11: Threat of spying from ISRO's launch station to missile and naval base

China's spy ship Yuan Wang-5 is moving towards Sri Lanka for reconnaissance of India at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour. It is likely to reach Hambantota on August 11. India has lodged a protest with Sri Lanka regarding this spy ship. Despite this, Sri Lanka has allowed it to come to Hambantota Port. India is on alert regarding this. The Indian Navy is closely monitoring the movement of the ship.

Yuan Wang-5 sends information to Beijing's land-based tracking stations

The Chinese spy ship Yuan Wang-5 departed from Jiangyin Port on July 13 and will arrive at Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka on August 11. In Hambantota, it will remain for a week i.e. till August 17. China has taken this port from Sri Lanka on a 99-year lease.

This ship has mastered space and satellite tracking. China tracks the launch of satellites, rockets, and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) through Yuan Wang class ships. China has 7 such ships, which are capable of operating in the entire Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. These ships spy and send complete information to the land-based tracking stations of Beijing.

According to the report of the US Department of Defense, this ship is operated by the Strategic Support Force (SSF) of the PLA. SSF is a theater command-level organization. It assists the PLA in space, cyber, electronic, information, communication, and psychological warfare missions.

Earlier, when China launched the Long March 5B rocket in 2022, it went out on a ship surveillance mission. Most recently it was also involved in maritime surveillance of the launch of the first lab module of China's Tiangong space station.

Reconnaissance of India from Sri Lanka will be easy

Sri Lanka's Defense Ministry had earlier dismissed reports of a Chinese ship coming to Hambantota. Later Sri Lanka clarified this issue and called it a regular activity and said that it has given such permission to many countries in the past. Till now Sri Lanka has been saying that it will not allow the use of Hambantota port for military activities.

Belt and Road Initiative Sri Lanka, ie BRISL, said that Yuan Wang-5, after reaching Hambantota on August 11, will conduct research by tracking Chinese satellites in the North-Western part of the Indian Ocean region from August to September.

BRISL has said in its statement that Yuan Wang-5's visit to Hambantota Port provides an opportunity for Sri Lanka and developing countries to learn and develop their space programs.

Experts say that this ship will remain in Hambantota from August 11 to 17. A lot of information can be gathered in so many days. Therefore, it is wrong for Sri Lanka to call it a normal move.

India's naval bases will come under China's radar

Yuan Wang-5 is not a military but a powerful tracking ship. These ships start their movement when China or any other country is doing missile tests. This ship can easily monitor up to 750 kilometers away. This 400-crew ship is equipped with a parabolic tracking antenna and several sensors.

After reaching Hambantota Port, this ship will have access to major military and nuclear bases in South India like Kalpakkam, and Kudankulam. Also, many ports of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh will be on the radar of China. Some experts also say that China is sending this ship to Sri Lanka to spy on India's main naval base and nuclear plants.

The ship is fitted with hi-tech eavesdropping equipment. That is, standing at the port of Sri Lanka, it can gather information about the interior of India. Also, Indian naval bases located on the east coast will be within the spying range of this ship. It is being claimed in some media reports that ISRO's launching center in Chandipur can also be spied on. Not only this, it can steal all the information such as performance and range of missiles like Agni of the country.

On July 31, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that we have received the news of this ship reaching Hambantota port in August. Keeping in view the security and economic interest of the country, the Government of India is keeping an eye on every development and will take all necessary steps to protect them.

At the same time, China's Foreign Ministry said in response that China hopes that the parties concerned will look at China's marine scientific research activity with the right eye. Also, refrain from interfering in it.

Sri Lanka handed over the Hambantota Port to China on a 99-year lease

Sri Lanka handed over the Hambantota Port in the South to China on a 99-year lease in the year 2017 after failing to repay the loan. This port is located near the main sea trade route between Asia and Europe. Which is very important for China's Belt and Road Initiative project.

India and America have always expressed concern that this port, built for $ 1.5 billion, could become a naval base for China. India's security experts have questioned its economic feasibility many times. It has also been said that it fits right into China's string of pearls strategy. Under this, China can encircle India through the Indian Ocean from the land as well as the sea.
