Co-Hosts New Zealand win World Cup Opener

Christchurch, Feb 14 (IANS) Co-hosts New Zealand earned a comprehensive victory over Sri Lanka in the cricket World Cup opener by 98 runs at the Hagley Oval here Saturday.

Put in to bat, New Zealand hammered 331/6 in their 50 overs with Corey Anderson top-scoring with 75 off just 46 balls. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 233 in 46.1 overs.
