New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) A committee has been set up to review security requirements of various museums under the culture ministry, parliament was informed on Monday.
"A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of administrator, National Museum, for framing a comprehensive security policy for implementation in all the museums uniformly," Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Sharma also informed parliament about the thefts reported in various museums during the last five years.
"Three cases of thefts were reported in respect of the Archaeological Site Museum at the Hazarduari Palace Museum, Murshidabad (West Bengal) in 2010, Indian War Memorial Museum, Red Fort in December 2012 and Residency Museum, Lucknow in 2010," he said.
"Gujarat too has reported two cases of theft -- one each from Waston Museum, Rajkot in August 2011 and Museum and Picture Gallery, Vadodara in October 2014," he added.
