COVID-19: Decline in pre-primary level enrollment in 2020-21 due to pandemic, education ministry reports

Now on Wednesday, the Ministry of Education has released a report saying that due to the epidemic there has been a decline in the enrollment of about 29 lakh students in pre-primary level in 2020-21 and 18 lakh in class one in comparison to 2019-20.

 

 

According to the report, the total enrollment of children with special needs in 2020-21 is 21.69 lakh, which shows a decrease of 3.56 percent as compared to 22.49 lakh in 2019-20. However, the total students enrolled in schooling from primary to higher secondary in 2020-21 saw an increase of 28.32 lakh from 2019-20.

Unified District Information System for Education Plus 2020-21 has released the report on school education in India. The report said that in 2020-21, the total number of students enrolled in schooling from primary to higher secondary was 25.38 crore. There has been an increase of 28.32 lakh enrollment as compared to 25.10 crore enrollment in 2019-20.

 

The report said 39.7 lakh students from government-aided and private schools were transferred to government schools during 2020-21. According to the report, 96.96 lakh teachers are engaged in school education during 2020-21. This is about 8800 more than the number of teachers in school education in 2019-20.

More than 12.2 crore girls have been enrolled from primary to higher secondary in 2020-21, which is an increase of 11.8 lakh girls as compared to girls' enrollment in 2019-20.
