Cyber security: The study of cyber security is mandatory in UG and the PG, UGC committee made a draft

In the academic session 2022-23, the study of cyber security in undergraduate and postgraduate programs will be mandatory in all higher educational institutions of the country. The undergraduate program will teach a basic and mid-level course in cyber security, which will consist of four credits.

 

The postgraduate program will require mid- and advanced-level studies, which will carry four credits. Its objective is to make students aware of cyber fraud, impart technical knowledge, and prepare experts in the field of cyber security in the era of digital education. In this, the legal, social, and economic aspects of cyber security will also be made aware.

 

It has been drafted by the Higher Committee of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Apart from this, a booklet showing general guidelines on digital hygiene in higher educational institutions has also been prepared. It is written that because of the revolution in information technology and the increasing demand for security-related matters, the need for cyber security is being felt strictly.

 

The rapid advancement in information technology raises very complex questions. A suitable solution is needed today. The curriculum prepared by high-level subject experts is based on these issues related to cyber security at present. Technology, its process, and common people have been kept at the center of its preparation.

The UG program will get four credits based on lectures, tutorials, and practical practice. In this, general knowledge of cyber security, cybercrime and law, social media and security, e-commerce and digital payments, digital tools and techniques in cyber security, etc. will be taught. At the same time, in the postgraduate program, cyber security management, data privacy, data security, cyber law, cybercrime, etc. will be taught.

Cyber ​​Awareness Day will be celebrated on the first Wednesday of every month in all educational institutions in the country. The Union Home Ministry has written a letter to all the states in this regard and has been directed to conduct Cyber ​​Awareness Day in schools, colleges, and universities. Under this, information will be given to students as well as teachers and staff. On the other hand, following the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, the UGC has directed all higher educational institutions to post Chief Information Security Officers. Apart from this, all institutions have been directed to send reports on cyber security awareness.

 

UGC Chairman Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar said that in the era of digital education, to make students aware of cyber frauds, to give technical knowledge, and to prepare experts in the field of cyber security. In this, the legal, social, and economic aspects of cyber security will also be made aware.
