Recently, Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt faced trolling when several internet users claimed that the paparazzi had ‘ignored’ her while she walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. While many actors came forward in support of Alia, Ameesha Patel has now also stepped up to defend her, criticizing the trolling culture that celebrities in India often have to endure online.
Questions Raised Regarding Unity Among People
On Sunday, Ameesha shared a post on X addressing the lack of unity in India. Without naming anyone specifically, she wrote, “Recent events have made it abundantly clear that our own Indian mindset has shifted towards pulling others down… We call ourselves a nation and united—but are we truly so?”
Describes Trolling Culture as ‘Shameful’
She went on to criticize the manner in which Indian actors are targeted online, writing, “Here in India, actors are trolled by their own people far more viciously than Hollywood stars are by their own people in their respective countries. Which is truly heartbreaking!”
“Whether it is an Indian star’s attire at major events or their physical appearance, sadly, they become targets for their own people! What a shame.”
Taking Aim at Alia’s Trollers?
Immediately after her post went viral, many fans speculated that Ameesha was referring to the trolling Alia Bhatt faced following her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.
Alia Responded to a Troller
Earlier, when Alia posted one of her Cannes looks on social media, an internet user commented, “How sad; no one even noticed you,” adding a laughing emoji. However, Alia responded to this comment with great grace, writing, “Why sad, my love?” “You actually noticed me!” This response of hers quickly went viral, and many fans praised the actress for handling the trolling so gracefully.
Ameesha Patel has Gadar 3 in the pipeline, along with an untitled period-action drama set against the backdrop of 1945. Following the tremendous box-office success of Gadar 2 in 2023, her most recent on-screen appearance was in the 2024 film Tauba Tera Jalwa.
