Do not listen to CM Channi's brother, fill out the form as an independent candidate from Bassi Pathana

Ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's brother Dr. Manohar Singh Bassi filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Bassi Pathana. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's brother filed his nomination on Friday. Manohar Singh was expected to get a ticket from the Congress from Bassi Pathana assembly seat but the ruling party decided to field its sitting MLA. After which now Manohar Singh decided to contest as an independent from the Bassi Pathana constituency.

Congress gave ticket to Gurpreet Singh GP

In its very first list of 86 candidates, Congress had given a ticket to party MLA Gurpreet Singh GP from Bassi Pathana (SC) seat. Manohar Singh termed the Congress' decision to give the ticket to Gurpreet Singh GP an "injustice" to the people of the constituency and alleged that the sitting MLA was "incompetent and ineffective". He had said, “Many prominent people of Bassi Pathana region have asked me to fight as an independent and I will go by what they have said. There is no chance of going back and I will contest the elections." Manohar Singh had resigned as a senior medical officer from Kharar Civil Hospital in August last year.

Why didn't Channi's brother get a ticket from Congress?

Earlier, on the news of his brother contesting as an independent, CM Channi had said that he would talk to him and explain to him. On giving Manohar a ticket from the Congress, party sources said that this is because the party is running on the 'one family one ticket formula'. However, in this regard, Manohar Singh cited instances where the relatives of the MP have got tickets. The party has fielded Vikramjit Singh Choudhary, son of Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Choudhary, from Phillaur seat, he said. He said that Fatehgarh Sahib MP Amar Singh's son Kamil Amar Singh has been given a ticket from Raikot's seat. Voting for 117 assembly seats in Punjab will be held on February 20 and counting of votes will be held on March 10.
