The army is building ponds in the area to provide fresh drinking water to 50,000 soldiers deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The army has been stationed there for almost two years after China attempted to infiltrate.
China should not do any misadventures again, that's why the army personnel is standing on LAC even in the freezing winters. Army personnel are deployed on the front since April-May 2020 after China's aggressive attitude. They are equipped with state-of-the-art defense equipment and other equipment. Several steps have been taken to meet their needs.
Chief Engineer of the Indian Army Lt. General Harpal Singh told that we are constructing ponds on a large scale on the LAC so that the drinking water needs of the jawans posted there can be met. Ponds are also being made near forward posts like Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO). From this year onwards, the jawans will be able to get fresh water from them even on cold days.
He told that during the cold days, the water on the ground freezes and becomes ice, but below it remains in liquid form. Army soldiers use the water present below this. Now the ponds will be used to meet their needs.
Daulat Beg Oldie's coldest
The Daulat Beg Oldie area is one of the coldest areas in Ladakh and is the most advanced. Many times the temperature here goes below minus 40 degrees during the cold days. In such a situation, providing fresh water and food to the jawans becomes a big challenge.
Corps of Engineers is helping, built 22 thousand more houses
The Corps of Engineers of the Army is helping the soldiers posted on the LAC to stay there etc. Lt Gen Harpal Singh said the Army has so far built an additional 22,000 houses for soldiers in eastern Ladakh. They are made in such a way that the buildings can be shifted from one place to another. Bases have also been built to keep a large number of tanks, armored vehicles, and other military vehicles so that they can be operated even on very cold days.
