Donald Trump: Trump's meeting with Syrian President can change the politics of West Asia, Israel warns

Posted on 15th May 2025 10:29 am by rohit kumar

US President Donald Trump is currently on a tour of West Asia (the Middle East). On Wednesday, a picture of Trump surfaced in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh, which was discussed all over the world, and based on this picture, it is being claimed that this can change the geopolitics of the entire West Asia. Actually, in this picture, apart from US President Donald Trump, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Syria's interim President, Ahmed Al Shara, were seen. So let's know what it means and how big an event it is in the world of geopolitics.

Why is it being discussed?

Syria's interim President, Ahmed Al Shara, who is seen standing with the US President today as the head of state, was a wanted terrorist for the US till a few years ago. Ahmed Al Shara has been involved in terrorist incidents in the past. He is also known as Mohammed Al Jalani or Golani. Ahmed Al Shara was a wanted terrorist in the United Nations and America. In the last two decades, Ahmed Al Shara has been associated with many terrorist organizations, including dreaded terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda and ISIS. Ahmed Al Shara was accused of raising funds for Al Qaeda and ISIS, arranging weapons, and connecting people with them. Ahmed Al Shara's association with Al Qaeda and ISIS was so deep that he used to report directly to Al Qaeda chief Ayman Al Zawahiri and ISIS chief Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi.

Led the rebellion in Syria

In 2011, rebellion against Bashar al-Assad's government started in Syria. The Assad government had the support of Russia and Iran. Ahmed al-Shara led the rebellion against Bashar al-Assad's government. Ahmed Al Shara founded Al Nusrat Front in 2012, which is also known as Jabhat Fatah al Sham. This organization was also a terrorist organization declared by the United Nations, which was considered an affiliate of Al Qaeda in Syria. Soon, the rebellion in Syria took a violent form.

In 2017, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham changed its name to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and tried to turn it into a political organization. It aimed to remove the Assad government from Syria and establish an Islamic Caliphate there. After several years of violence, Bashar al-Assad was defeated in December 2024, and Assad fled Syria. Russia also could not come to the aid of the Assad government as it is embroiled in the Ukraine war. After removing the Bashar al-Assad government from power, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham chief Ahmed al-Shara declared himself the interim president of Syria.

America wants to replace Russia in Syria.

After coming to power in Syria, the US lifted all sanctions imposed on Syria. These sanctions were imposed on the Syrian government since 1979. It is believed that after the removal of the pro-Russia Assad government from power, America now wants to strengthen its hold in Syria. Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is said to be the brain behind the meeting between Trump and Ahmed al-Shara. After the departure of the Bashar government, Iran's hold on Syria has also weakened, so now Saudi Arabia wants to fill that space. This can lead to big changes in the politics of West Asia. Turkey and Arab countries are also supporting the new government of Syria.

Israel gave a warning

However, the Israeli government is not happy with the whole incident. They believe that America should not be in a hurry to give legitimacy to the new government of Syria. Israel cites the terrorist background of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as the reason for this.

Anyway, the meeting of Trump and the interim president of Syria will have a big impact on the geopolitics of West Asia, and this will create new equations and destroy the old equations.
