Tapas Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has completed 18 hours of flight testing. It has been designed and developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), the premier research laboratory of DRDO. DRDO said in a statement that this test was completed on Wednesday at the Aeronautical Test Range located in Chitradurga (Karnataka).

This is an unmanned aircraft. In the coming times, pilotless aircraft can prove to be a milestone in the direction of development and self-sufficiency.

India is continuously increasing its military strength. In this episode, he has developed state-of-the-art systems including drones, and missiles. Now the name of Tapas has also been included in this, which is a state-of-the-art unmanned aircraft. ADE has built it on the lines of the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator drone of America. TAPAS-BH-201 made its first flight in 2016 at Challakere, two km from Bengaluru in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka.

This drone can fly with a payload of 350 kg. The length of Tapas BH is 9.5 meters and the width is 20.6 meters. Its weight is 1800 kg. Indigenous engines made by DRDO's Vehicle Research and Development Establishment are being used in the Tapas drone. Each engine can give a power of 130 kW. The Tapas BH 201 drone can conduct surveillance and attack in a range of one thousand kilometers.

Apart from this, it can fly at a speed of 224 kmph. This drone can stay for 24 hours at an altitude of 35 thousand feet. Tapas is also about eight times the cost of drones bought from abroad.
