Now another Indian startup company has resorted to layoffs to reduce costs. Google-backed delivery platform Dunzo has fired 3 percent of its employees. However, the company has not given this information about the total number of employees who have been fired.
According to the information available on LinkedIn, Dunzo had a total of 3000 employees working. The company has fired 3 percent of its employees, which means that about 90 employees have been retrenched. The company's co-founder and CEO Kabir Biswas said that we have reached 10 to 100. But after reaching this scale, we are trying to learn how to redefine the business process. Any decision that affects people is difficult and is always the last option. Last week we had to part ways with 3% of our team.
He said that whatever the number may be, these people had decided to make their career with Dunzo. We are sad that we had to leave behind so many talented people. We are trying our best to help them during this transition. Dunzo raised $ 240 million in funding in January 2022 last year under the leadership of Reliance Retail. Lightbox and Light rock have invested at a valuation of $800 million. Now the company is preparing to raise $ 250 to 300 million to execute its expansion plan and to fund the quick commerce business. In 2021-22, the company's operating revenue increased from Rs 25.1 crore to Rs 54.3 crore, while the company's loss increased from Rs 229 crore to Rs 464 crore during this period.
In the last few months, startup companies in the country have shown the way to 17,000 people. Apart from Dunzo, another Google-backed company ShareChat has fired 20 percent of people. Apart from this, food delivery companies including many edtech companies have laid off their employees in recent times.
