Recently, a report has been issued by the Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding the monsoon. The report released by the IMD states that there is a 70 percent chance of El Nino developing this monsoon. Because of that agriculture, consumption, and the economy can also be at risk.
However, on April 11, the IMD said that El Nino would develop 50 percent, with normal monsoon expected. After this, it has now been re-evaluated and a new update has come in it. Necessary steps were also taken by the government regarding this. A system was established for specialized advisory services and forecasts in 700 districts of the country.
Will be 70 percent in three months
The IMD said on Friday that there is a 70% chance of El Nino developing in the three months of June, July, and August, while it will increase to 80% between July and September.
El Nino saw in these seven years in India
According to the report, between 2001 and 2020, seven El Nino years have been observed in the country. Drought conditions were also observed due to four of these seven. These include the years 2003, 2005, 2009-10, and 2015-16. All these years saw a decline of 16%, 8%, 10%, and 3% in kharif or summer-sown agricultural production, leading to a rise in inflation. Let us tell you that Kharif is such a crop that accounts for almost half of the country's annual food supply.
Normal rainfall due to "La-Nina" in the last three years
It has been said by the IMD that due to "La Nina" normal rainfall has been recorded in the last three years. But now after the effect of La Nina, the condition of El Nina can be created in the atmosphere. Actually 'Al-Nina' is the exact opposite of 'La Nina'. Earlier, the Meteorological Department had also said that despite the formation of El-Nino conditions, there is a possibility of normal rains in India during the South-West Monsoon. It is also expected to provide relief in the agriculture sector.
What is El Nino?
El Niño is one of the oceanic phenomena in the equatorial region of the Pacific Ocean. Due to periodic changes in sea surface temperature, its effect is visible in the weather around the world. El Nino is a condition that causes warming temperatures. El Nino is considered a part of the climate system itself. Because of this, the weather has a profound effect.
