England started the tour of Pakistan on a winning note, thanks to the precise bowling of left-arm medium pacer Luke Wood and the charming innings of Alex Hales and Harry Brooke. They beat the hosts by 6 wickets. The English team has defeated Pakistan at their home ground after 17 years. The team toured Pakistan in 2005. In the first match of the 7-match T20 series, the visiting team achieved the target of 159 runs in 19.2 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Alex Hales, who returned to the team after 3 years, scored 53 runs, while Harry Brooke (42 not out) played a brilliant inning.
Earlier, after losing the coin, the Pakistan team scored 158 runs. His opener Rizwan and captain Babar Azam shared an 85-run partnership for the first wicket. However, Babar could not convert the good start into big innings and returned to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs in 24 balls. Mohammad Rizwan scored 68 runs in 46 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
Pak's middle order remained weak
Pakistan had scored 87 runs in the first 10 overs, but the middle order could not convert the strong start into big scores. Haider Ali scored 11 (13) runs, while T20 debutant Shan Masood added the same number of runs in seven balls. Mohammad Nawaz also returned to the pavilion after scoring four runs, although Iftikhar Ahmed scored 28 runs in 17 balls with the help of three sixes, taking the team to a score of 158/7 in 20 overs.
For England, Luke Wood took three wickets for 24 runs in four overs, while Adil Rashid got two and Sam Curran and Moeen Ali got one wicket each.
Hales-Malan takes over England
In the retaliatory innings, the wicket of opener Philippe Salt (10) was lost early, but Hales, who came out to open the innings with him, remained at one end. Hales added 34 runs for the second wicket with Malan and 34 runs for the third wicket with Duckett. The 55-run partnership between Brooke and Hales for the fourth wicket took Pakistan out of the match completely. Brooks played an unbeaten knock of 42 runs off 25 balls with seven fours, which included the winning four.
For Pakistan, Qadir took two wickets for 36 runs in four overs, while Shahnawaz Dahani and Haris Rauf took one wicket each. Naseem Shah gave 41 runs in four overs while he could not take a single wicket.
